LAKE CITY, FL -- Students at Niblack Elementary School earned praise from teachers on the way they responded to a tornado that ripped through a neighborhood near the school.
The school was not damaged, but children were instructed to take cover beneath their desks.
Assistant Principal Debra Hill says she saw the storm brewing. Moments later staff knocked on doors to get the word out to take cover.
The storm left the school without power, plus there was no safe way for parents to get their children because storm cleanup was underway.
Students at Niblack were taken to nearby Eastside Elementary where they spent the rest of the school day, safe and sound, with a lesson well learned.
