DAYTONA BEACH, FL (AP) -- Jury selection in the trial of three men accused of killing six people because of a video game system will begin July fifth in St. Augustine.
The trial was moved earlier this month from Volusia County to St. Johns County. Prosecutors and defense attorneys had agreed that intense media coverage of the case would make it difficult to find an impartial jury in Volusia County.
Jerone Hunter, Troy Victorino and Michael Salas all face six counts of first-degree murder, five counts of mutilating a dead human body and three other felonies. Prosecutors allege Victorino organized the baseball bat attack in 2004 to retrieve an X-box video game system that he lost.
A fourth man, Robert Cannon, faced the same charges as the others and he pleaded guilty in October to all of them. He will get a life sentence in exchange for his testimony.
