New condos give new look to blighted development

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A blighted construction site along Goodby's Creek off San Jose Boulevard is taking on a new look with new condos now part of the landscape.

For nearly five years, half-finished buildings punctuated the skyline off Baymeadows Road as The Cove at St. Johns never materialized. Last fall that changed with new owners buying the property and this spring work began on the first of four structures on what is now called The Palazzo.

The first phase is nearly complete with new homeowners expected to move in later this year into condos that range in price from $400,000 to $850,000 along the waterfront.

"Once everyone saw buildings going up and being worked on we have had tremendous amount of support from local community," said Tamara Lauridsen who is a sales specialist for The Palazzo.

Work has been started on the second building with two more in the pipeline. The entire project could take two years to complete.
