New businesses popping up in Springfield

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Several local businesses are ready to help revitalize Springfield. Business owners will be opening up shop in just a few months. Wilson Kaiser is one of those people. He's ready to open a yoga studio and juice bar at the corner of First and Main.

"This is the right moment to grab the area and make it a hub like Riverside, Avondale, and San Marco," he said.

Main Street in Springfield is largely void of any businesses. Many in that part of Jacksonville say any rebuilding is a big step in the right direction.

"It's a great neighborhood, but there's always a need for improvement," said Maureen Walsh. She's lived in Springfield for a little more than a year.

Bill Hoff, president of Springfield Preservation and Revitalization (SPAR), says having commercial needs met with the residential demand, is a big move for the community.

"One of the main things that has been holding the neighborhood back is the lack of commercial activity," he said.
