Motorcyclist critical after striking dump truck

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A motorcyclist not wearing a helmet was left with serious injuries after striking the back of a dump truck Wednesday morning on County Road 214 near Carter Road.

Jimmy Mulholland, 48, struck the back of the 1998 Mack dump truck driven by 22-year-old Jonathon Taylor, according to a release from St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw.

Mullholland was transported to UF Health at Jacksonville in critical condition and has life-threatening injuries. Taylor had no injuries. The road was closed for several hours due to the crash.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, Kelshaw said. The investigation is ongoing.
