Man shot in city's ceasefire zone

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A shooting described by the victim as a random drive-by is under investigation in the city's ceasefire zone.

An unidentified victim walked into UF Health Jacksonville with a gunshot wound in his right arm and left foot around 1 p.m. Monday, according to Sgt. Clarence Rodgers Jr. with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The victim told police he was walking in the 1500 block of West 5th Street when two cars passed him, the passengers in each car shooting at one another. The victim claimed he was caught in the crossfire.

Police do not have a description of either of the cars involved, other than they were dark in color, Sgt. Rodgers detailed. It is also unknown how many people were in the cars at the time of the shooting.

According to police, the victim does not live in the area and said he was in the area visiting friends, but was unable to provide the legal names of the friends he was allegedly visiting.
