Man injured after train collision

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – A 21-year-old man is in serious condition after being hit by a train Wednesday morning.

At about 4:15 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a crash in the 700 block of U.S.-17. According to the FHP report, the driver of the pickup truck, Herbert Fridy, was leaving a home when for reasons unknown at this time that he did not stop for the Amtrak train.

The train collided with the front, passenger side of the vehicle. The victim, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected. He is receiving treatment at UF Health Jacksonville.

There were no other passengers in the vehicle and no one on the train was injured.
