Man crashed into deputies, charged with DUI

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. -- A Fernandina Beach man is facing careless driving DUI charges after being involved in a crash that injured two deputies Thursday night.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, 25-year-old Stephen Lee Coleman rear-ended a Nassau County Sheriff's Office cruiser as the officers approached the intersection of Miner Road, near Yulee Elementary School around 7:30 p.m.

The deputies were taken to St. Vincents Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Coleman was arrested and taken to the Nassau County jail.

The report said alcohol was a factor.

Both the deputies and Coleman were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The Nassau County clerk of courts page shows that Coleman has been charged with careless driving twice before, in February 2006 and then again in November 2009.

The report also shows that Coleman has four speeding tickets, including one for going 20-29 miles per hour over the speed limit.
