Local gas tax vote expected Tuesday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Should Jacksonville extend the local gas tax another 20 years?

City council will weigh in at Tuesday night's meeting as this debate comes up for final vote.

Last week, residents had their chance to weigh in on the optional local tax during a town hall meeting.

The tax adds six cents to a gallon of gas. If approved the money is earmarked to help fund transportation projects. It generates about $30 million a year and is set to expire in 2016.
