Local dad battles texting and driving with gloves

He says driving gloves are a great way to prevent texting while driving.

An Orange Park father is on a mission to try and stop texting while driving.

“I don’t ever want to get a phone call one night telling me my son died because he was texting and driving,” Randy Yarbrough said.

So, he decided to buy a pair of gloves.

“I can’t answer the text,” he said while he’s got the gloves on.

Yarbrough admits he’s texted while driving and now that his youngest son, Andrew started driving, he wanted to set a good example.

“Trying to be a good dad and show them that safety is everything and not to put others lives in danger because of your selfish needs,” he said.

His 16-year-old son  says he’s seen most of his friends texting behind the wheel.

“I would say a good 90 percent of them yeah," Andrew Yarbrough said.

But his dad said he doesn’t want his son to be a part of the percentage of careless drivers that text while they’re on the road.

“A young girl was texting and driving and wound up hitting my wife at 60 miles an hour in the rear end and put the trunk in the back seat of the car," he said. "She was rushed to the emergency room with burns to her face from the airbag."

He said the outcome could have been much worse and a pair of gloves could save your life.

“Go buy some gloves, go buy everybody in your house a pair of gloves that might have the issue with texting and driving it will stop that problem right then and there,” Yarbrough said.
