Lightning starts brush fire at NAS Jax

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A small brush fire is burning on the Westside inside Naval Air Station Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department told First Coast News no homes are at risk.

Smoke could been seen from the Buckman Bridge.

Multiple crews including JFRD, Orange Park Fire Department, Clay County Fire Department and the Florida Forestry Service are on the scene.

The fire started around 3:30 p.m., according to NAS Jax public affairs.

The fire is believed to be caused by a lightning strike and was brought under control at approximately 6 p.m

Firefighters will remain on scene to watch over the area.
