Landing restaurant employees claim they haven't been paid

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Employees at a restaurant located at The Jacksonville Landing say they haven't been paid for weeks and are not being told why.

Approximately five weeks ago Vito's Italian Café got a new owner. Christia Thompson, Cheryl Hinton and Tangi Hinton say they were hired shortly after but still have not received a pay check.

"There are several employees that are scared to speak so I'm going to be their voice," said Thompson. "This is wrong."

Thompson claims that after working at Vito's Italian Café as a waitress for nearly a month she hadn't received a dime for her services.

"I would ask does anybody know when we're going to get paid," said Thompson. "Does anybody have any idea as to when paychecks are going to be in? And it's either I don't know or don't ask me I haven't been paid either you're preaching to the wrong choir."

FCN visited Vito's Italian Café at The Landing where the general manager assured us they do pay their employees. He said those who have not received their check as yet will get paid within two weeks once the pay cycle is complete.

"Right now it's really hard for me," said Thompson who is a single mother.

She no longer works at the restaurant. And was told via text message to her cell phone by her former shift manager; "I won't need you at all this week, too slow."

"I don't feel that as hard as I've worked and the other employees worked as hard as we did, that we deserve to be treated that way," said Thompson.

She plans to file a formal complaint with the Department of Labor.
