The announcement was made Monday.

A man passing through a DUI checkpoint March 14 in Lake City was shot and killed after he allegedly pulled a gun on Lake City Police Officer Michael Lee.

The suspect, Jimmy Eugene Barker of Louisville, Tenn., died at the scene.

Officers made contact with Barker in his black 2012 Dodge pick-up truck just before midnight in the 1400 block of West Duval Street. The investigation found that after Lee unsuccessfully attempted to take the revolver from Barker and after multiple ignored commands for Barker to drop his gun, he felt that his life and another officer's life were in immediate danger and shot Barker once in the chest, according to LCPD.

The State Attorney's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) investigated the shooting.

Officer Lee returned to full duty on May 21.
