JSO: Man killed, another injured in fiery collision on University Boulevard

Several people died in different crashes this weekend.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man is dead and another is in unknown condition Sunday evening after a collision at University and Atlantic Boulevards, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police officers and emergency personnel responded at 5:26 p.m. Sunday to a crash at the intersection of University and Atlantic Boulevards.

Witness said a truck traveling south in the southbound lane of University Boulevard and a gray car was traveling north in the southbound lanes, causing a collision. Witnesses also said the gray car was traveling on its side, with only two tires on the road.

When officers arrived at the scene, one of the vehicles was on fire, according to a preliminary police report.

JFRD arrived on scene after an officer extinguished the fire. Emergency personnel transported two motorists, with one of them being pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
