JEA crews Georgia-bound to repair storm damage

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- For the third time this year, JEA crews are Georgia bound to help restore power to communities hit by bad weather.

Earlier this year, it was the winter storms that had Georgia Power requesting helping from other utility companies. This time, it was the spring storms that pounded the Southeast with tornadoes.

On Tuesday, 42 crews and trucks made trip to Atlanta, where they will be assigned to help restore electric services to communities hardest hit.

"It is rewarding getting to help out people from another area," said JEA lineman Mike Tomberlin, who has been on storm duty before.

Crews can be gone for a few days to a few weeks. When Hurricane Sandy hit the Northeast, some JEA crews worked six weeks on the front line.
