Investigators identify body found in retention pond

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office made a positive identification and confirmed that it was Twila Joyner's body that was discovered in a retention pond near Cunningham estates Monday.

An autopsy report concluded that the cause of death was by drowning with a contributing factor of Alzheimer's Disease.

Joyner was last seen going to bed at 7:00 p.m. Saturday night. Deputies said Joyner had Alzheimer's disease and was known to wander the area of the Northwest District of St. Johns County.

Several volunteers had been searching for Joyner since Saturday, including, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue, St. Augustine Beach Police Department, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, St. Johns County Fire and Rescue and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
