Identity of woman hit by 2 cars released

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. -- Donna Lou Newman, 68, was struck by two cars as she crossed US 1 Saturday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Newman was attempting to cross US 1 near Holiday Drive around 10 p.m. and was hit by a Ford F-150 driven by 21-year-old Cody Douglas Godwin and a Honda CRV driven by 41-year-old Michael Chad Fencik of Callahan.

Neither Godwin nor Fencik were under the influence of alcohol and they were both wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident, according to FHP.

Emily Alexis Broughton, 19, the passenger in the F-150, had minor injuries however, the passengers inside the Honda CRV had no injuries.

Newman was pronounced dead at the scene.

No charges are pending.
