Water utility services suspended in select St. Johns County areas

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - Due to impending evacuations brought on by Hurricane Matthew, water utility services will be unavailable for barrier island residents in St. Johns County.

The water outage will begin at 8 p.m. on Thursday for barrier islands east of the Intracoastal Waterway, including Ponte Vedra Beach, Vilano Beach and Anastasia Island.

The water supply suspension includes St. Johns County, City of St. Augustine Utility and JEA Utility customers.

Services are being ceased to ensure integrity of the water and wastewater systems serving St. Johns County ahead of the catastrophic damage expected from Hurricane Matthew.

In addition to water outages, residents staying during the evacuation period will experience transportation and first responder service delays as well.

If you live in an evacuation zone, please evacuate immediately. Do not try to ride this storm out. Your life is in danger from storm surge as well as extremely high winds.
