Hero Bakers: Making sure all kids have a birthday party

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- This week is a time to count our blessings and if birthday parties are a nice thing at your house, maybe you can help with this.

Some kids right here in Jacksonville are not getting birthday parties. Tonight, we check in with our Hero Bakers and a little guy who wants to establish something right off the bat. No matter how you ask it, cupcakes are number one.

Kenneth is four years old and likes cupcakes. So does "everybody," he said.

Every child deserves a birthday party. The kids at this party are homeless or victims of domestic violence. They're loving the attention.

So thanks to all our new hero bakers ... but we still need your help. We still need grab bags, crayons, so if you can give tiny toys, bake cupcakes, or just love on the kids, that would be great.

You know, when we first launched Hero Bakers, it was so cool to see the children light up and say thank you. That was three years ago and it's still such a great feeling.

If you'd like to be a Hero Baker once a month or whenever you can, just email Jeannie at jblaylock@firstcoastnews.com.

And don't worry, you do not need to be a professional baker. We love cake mixes!
