Video shows Ga. man catching wife on fire at gas station

CLARKSVILLE, Ga. -- A Habersham County man is facing charges after igniting a cigarette lighter near his gas tank. The fire severely injured his wife.

On October 16th, 37-year-old Austin Dawkins was filling up his truck at the Gulf Food Mart5 on Grant Street in Clarksville. Surveillance video captures him using the lighter near his gas tank and causing a fuel vapor explosion. Dawkins wife, Jessica, was standing next to her husband when the explosion occurred. She sustained second and third burns to her legs, arms, back, and head.

Insurance and Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens tells 11Alive News 37-year-old Austin Dawkins was arrested Friday night and charged with reckless conduct. The case has been turned over to the Habersham District Attorney's office for prosecution. Dawkins could face a year in prison for the reckless conduct charge.
