Woman stole from cancer patient to pay for crack

ORLANDO, Fla. - An Orange County woman appeared before a judge today after deputies said she stole from a terminal cancer patient.

"First of all I didn't want to believe it," said the victim's husband. "I treated her like a daughter."

The Orange County Sheriff's Office arrested 37-year-old Sherrie Demoranville, who is accused of stealing her former boyfriend's mother's credit card and racking up more than $3,000 in electronics purchases and numerous cash advances.

"Hopefully I can get over this," the victim's husband said. "Right now, my only concern is my wife."

When confronted, Demoranville allegedly admitted to the thefts, claiming she did it to support a crack cocaine habit, court records show.

Demoranville remains in the Orange County Jail on charges of petty theft, fraudulent use of credit cards, grand theft and theft from someone 65 years old or older.
