DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Daytona Beach Police are investigating two homicides Saturday. The first occurred in front of the Italian Pizza and Grill, 515 North Atlantic Ave. Police say some patrons argued in the pizzeria, and left the building, continuing the dispute on the sidewalk. Victoria Akers, 24 tried to stop the fight between one of her friends and the suspect, Michael Guardino, 22. Guardino allegedly pulled a gun and shot her, and then ran from the scene.
Akers' husband Cody Collins, with help from Daytona Beach Police officers, tried to stop the bleeding. The victim was taken to Halifax Medical Center, and pronounced dead about 40 minutes later.
Police got a warrant charging Guardino with First Degree Murder. Police said Akers and Guardino did not know each other. Law officers are actively searching for
Guardino to arrest him.
The second shooting occurred around 7:25 a.m., in the 600 block of El Dorado Street. Daytona Beach Police Chief Craig Capri told WESH 2 News that a man driving a car was shot by someone outside of the vehicle. The victim sped away from the scene, and his maroon Nissan came to a stop a couple of blocks away, in the 800 block of Magnolia Ave. Two unknown men were in the car were seen running from the scene. The driver was dead at the scene, and there are four bullet holes in the car.
Chief Capri said it will take some time, but we will solve this. Police have talked to some witnesses, but need tips to solve the case. Anyone with information on the homicide is asked to call Volusia County Crimestoppers, at 1-888-277-TIPS. The chief said there is a $10,000 reward for information that results in the arrest in a homicide case.
