500 acres burning in northeast Marion County; 40 homes evacuated

A large wildfire burning in northeast Marion County is burning more than 500 acres Friday evening, forest officials say.

Forty homes have been evacuated and one shed has been lost in the blaze burning in the Fort McCoy, Florida area, near County Road 318.

Smoke from the blaze is so large it's crossing over into Putnam County. 

It is 25 percent contained at the time of this writing. No roads are closed.
