Fatal crash closes eastbound lanes of I-10 in Columbia

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -- A fatal crash has closed eastbound lanes of Interstate 10.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, eastbound lanes west of U.S. 41 are closed for "investigation and debris removal."

Christina Ann Fields, 51, of Lake City, was traveling westbound in a 2006 Saturn sedan on I-10 in the inside lane, according to a release from FHP.

A Freightliner tractor trailer being driven by 52-year-old James Gregory Rose of Conyers, Ga., was traveling eastbound in the outside lane when Fields' vehicle traveled into the center median.

Fields' vehicle traveled in front of the Freightliner and was struck on the front right, the release detailed. Rose was transported to Lake City Medical Center with minor injuries and was later released. Fields was pronounced dead at the scene.

The roadway is still closed due to the removal of the tractor trailer and FHP is urging motorists to avoid the area and seek an alternate route.

-Motorists traveling northbound on Interstate 75 will be detoured to County Road 136 in Suwannee County, then south on U.S. 41 back to I-10.

-Motorists traveling eastbound on I-10 will be detoured onto southbound I-75. Drivers can then exit eastbound on U.S. 90, go northbound on U.S. 41 or 441 and return to I-10.
