Jacksonville, Fla. -- A man and his dog were struck and killed Sunday by a train in the Murray Hill area.
The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. in the 1100 block of Edgewood Avenue.
When first responders arrived, they found Scott Wulff, 61, and his dog, Astrid, both dead.
Witnesses said Wulff's dog escaped and accidentally ran toward the train after she became spooked by lights and horns. Wulff's son, Jacob, said he's not surprised at his father's actions.
"He cared about that dog more than anything and I know he died trying to save the one thing he loved the most," Wulff said.
Friends of Wulff said he had recently become homeless after going through some tough times.
"My father was a prideful man and he had become very distant over the past few months, I was
worried," Wulff said. "I wish I had known because I'm in the position where I could have helped him."
Wulff leaves behind two sons, one daughter and three grandchildren.
A GoFundMe page has been created to help with Wulff’s family with funeral arrangements.
