Facelift for Five Star Veterans Center

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Hundreds of volunteers from across the county spent Wednesday at the 5 Star Veterans Center, improving the facility, inside and out.

"The Veterans provide so much to society, I never served, so it's our turn to give back to those who do," said Alan Boucher. He came from Atlanta to help with the upgrade.

The money for the upgrades come from the Home Depot Foundation. 5 Star had a share of 80 million dollars to help improve veteran centers across the county. Colonel Len Loving is the CEO of the center in Jacksonville. He says the repairs were desperately needed.

"This is a very old building, and it didn't have a lot of good maintenance," he said.

Colonel Loving hopes the upgrades can increase the capacity of veterans he helps, from 20 to 40.

"It's going to really elevate us tremendously," he said.
