Electric car rally held for input on charging stations

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Electric cars like the Volt and Tesla were on display Tuesday night at the Drive Electric Rally at Tapestry Park on Jacksonville's Southside.

The North Florida Transportation Planning Organization hosted the event to hear from local electric vehicle owners and future E-V owners. The organization is planning to install charging stations on the First Coast and is looking for input on where to put them.

Paul Risner is one of about 100 people who registered for the event said, "I'd like to see all the public buildings, libraries, anywhere that people spend two hours or more ought to have plugs. Every movie theater ought to have them, every library, medical facilities and so forth. Parking garages in the future when they are built ought to be built with charging stations included as part of the required infrastructure."

Organizers say right now there about 225 electric vehicle owners in the area. They plan to have more events like the one Tuesday evening, and may even start and electric vehicle club.
