CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- A falling tree killed an elderly woman in Keystone Heights Monday.
Deputies say the tree was cut by the woman's 70 year old brother Al Norris, and fell in her direction. She was sitting in a lawn chair and was unable to move out of the way.
The victim, identified as 77 year old Eula Manahan, died at the scene.
CCSO says Norris cut a wedge in the tree so it would fall away from the house, but wood rot in the bottom of the tree appears to have made the tree fall too soon.
Family members and children were in the yard but were not injured, according to CCSO.
