Edward Waters College gets historical marker

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Edward Waters College received a Florida Historical Marker on Wednesday.

The school is the oldest private and historically black college in the Sunshine State.

It was originally founded by the African Methodist Episcopal Church to help educate newly freed slaves back in 1866.

The Centennial Library is the college's oldest building on that campus and named to commemorate the AME Church.
