JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A home invasion suspect has been shot and is facing a charge of burglary after  breaking and entering an apartment in the Regency area Wednesday night.

Kyle Williams, 21, was shot on the evening of Sept. 14 after allegedly kicking in the door of an apartment at 445 Monument Road.

The 19-year-old woman who was home at the time of the breaking and entering, in fear for her life, grabbed her gun and shot the suspect.

The suspect fled the scene in a black vehicle with an unknown white male following the shooting, authorities say. After JSO arrived, the victim told the officers she was fairly certain she struck the suspect.

According to police, Williams showed up at a walk-in clinic with a gunshot wound to the leg shortly after.

The suspect has since been taken into custody with non-life threatening injuries and is facing a charge of burglary.

The 19-year-old victim is in custody and is cooperating with authorities but she has not been arrested.

The investigation is ongoing and police say they have not concluded whether this was an act of self-defense.
