A police chase in Orange Park ended when the suspect's vehicle crashed into a tree, officials report.
According to deputies, 20-year-old Matthew Scott was running from police along Old Jennings Road, when he crashed into a tree, flipping over and then catching on fire.
According to officials, deputies were during patrols of targeted areas and noticed a vehicle parked in a suspicious area, deputies exited their vehicle and made contact with the two people inside the car clearly identifying they were deputies.
That's when deputies say Scott decided to hit the gas and speed off, striking one of the deputies. The deputy injured was taken to Orange Park Medical Center with minor injuries and was soon released. He will not return to work for a few days.
The driver of the vehicle fled but was later arrested.
