Manager requests more police after another Westside shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots fired call near Blanchard Boulevard and Longchamp Drive around 11:40 a.m. Thursday. The shooting left one man shot in the leg and at least three nearby houses scattered with bullet holes.

One man was treated at St. Vincent after being shot in leg and is expected to be ok.

JSO believes the shooting was related to money.

Witnesses tell police they noticed a black Jeep pull up near two men walking in a nearby median. The driver told police he recognized the men and that they owed him money. When he confronted the men, a short argument followed.

Witnesses told police and First Coast News as the two men on foot appeared to be walking away, shots opened on the Jeep. The driver returned fire with a shotgun hitting one of the men in the leg.

At least three homes were hit with stray bullets, including one with a 3, 5 and 9-year-old inside at the time of the shooting. No one was injured.

It’s the most recent shooting in a Westside area that has Internet Manager at Orange Park Automall John Harkless calling for action from Mayor Lenny Curry.

“If we’re going to protect our streets, protect our kids, a bullet went into that man’s house, what if he was standing up instead of sitting down," he said. "At least 100 more police need to be added.“

Police say all three men know each other and have yet to interview the third-man involved. Charges are expected against the man who fire into the Jeep.

Neither suspect or victim information has been released.
