Kia is recalling 51,641 of its fun little Soul crossovers from the 2014 model year to fix a steering issue.
Workers at a supplier plant in South Korea apparently used the wrong adhesive to lock the threads on a plug. The plug secures a pinion gear to the steering assembly and if it comes off, a loss of steering could cause the car to crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The defect was first discovered in April when Kia officials reacted to a report from a dealer. The bad parts were installed on Souls made from a year ago until January.
When owners bring in their vehicles under the recall, dealers will install new pinion plugs with the proper adhesive.
