Bomb squad investigating 'acid bomb' in Fort Caroline

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad responded to the Ft. Caroline area Monday evening after witnesses reported hearing a loud boom.

Detectives arrived on scene in the 5900 block of Fort Caroline Road Monday at 6:30 p.m. and found a plastic bottle with aluminum foil and an unknown type of substance had exploded, according to JSO Sgt. Ricky Valentine.

The plastic bottle described as what's commonly known as an, "acid bomb," by Sgt. Valentine, was found in the breezeway near someone's front door.

No one was injured and officers remained on the scene for a few hours to secure the area and collet evidence. The plastic bottle and its contents will be sent to a lab for testing.

"If you see a strange substance inside of a container that's not yours, we don't want it touched or moved. Call our officers out…," Sgt. Valentine detailed.
