Trying to change the rules for dogs at Jacksonville Beach

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- A Jacksonville man has started a petition on to make it okay for dogs to be on the beach without a leash.

Jeffrey Billman's petition has 50 signatures, with mostly positive comments.

"There's so many people around here that have dogs and love dogs," he said. "It'd be a lot of fun."

In the petition, Billman points out owners would need to keep an eye on their dogs, pick up after them, and be liable to damage or injuries.

One person we spoke with said it's still too risky, especially with young children at the beach.

"I think that can be a danger to the dogs and the people who are on the beach," said Darlene Kaufman.

We tried to get a comment from Jacksonville Beach Mayor Charlie Latham, he was unavailable.
