Barbershop gives free haircuts to Duval County students

One Jacksonville man is trying to make a difference with breakfast, a free haircut, and school supplies.

Ronnie Kelsey has owned Second Level Barber Shop for five years. It has always been his dream to give back to the community he grew up in.

"God has blessed me and the business and blessed us as a team, so we just want to give back," he said.

Kelsey hosted 'Cutting For A Cause' for Duval County students Thursday.

Dozens of families lined up as early as 6:30 a.m. to take advantage of free haircuts, school supplies, backpacks, and breakfast.

Timya Moody will be in third grade at Cornerstone Elementary. She can't wait to start the new school year.

"I love school, because I like to learn and I want to know a lot. I love my teachers," she said.

Kelsey is a Englewood High School graduate. He remembers how expensive it can be to send a child back to school.

"A lot of these neighborhoods I grew up in and I couldn't afford haircuts and shoes and stuff like that, so I just wanted to give back," he said.

This is the third year Kelsey has hosted the event. He plans to continue the tradition next year.

"It's going to be bigger next year. We might be outside next year."
