Baby found dead in swimming pool identified

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An 8-month-old baby was found dead inside a swimming pool Saturday morning.

That child was identified Monday morning. According to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office incident report, the child is Karsyn Wayne Mangum.

JSO says there was a party the night before at a home located in the 11000 block of West Leafdale Circle.

According to JSO, the child was in a play pen inside the house. When one of the adults woke up, they went outside and found the child in the pool.

Police transported everyone that was present to the Police Memorial Building to be interviewed.

Property records indicate the home is owned by Thomas Hohorst, whom Jacksonville Fire and Rescue confirms is a Lieutenant with the department. JFRD said he has been a firefighter for 25 years, according to a department spokesperson.

A JFRD spokesman said the entire department extends its thoughts and prayers to the family.

A man who answered the family's door Monday afternoon, identifying himself only as "a family friend" told FCN the family has no comment and they just want to be left alone right now.

Meanwhile JSO told FCN they haven't figured out a cause of death yet, but the investigation is still active.
