JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - An investigation is underway after a man was found shot in a car that had crashed into a Westside convenience store.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to the Safeco Food Store on San Juan Avenue and Hyde Park Road just after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday following reports of a person shot, according to JSO Sgt. Jesse York.
When officers arrived, they found the man who had been shot and a car crashed into the side of the Safeco. No employees or customers at the store were injured.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Sgt. York detailed.
JSO initially reported it was responding to a robbery with reported injuries, but police now do not believe the incident had anything to do with a robbery. Investigators are working to determine a motive for the shooting.
A person of interest is in custody and is currently being interviewed by police, according to Sgt. York.
The victim is described as a male in his twenties to thirties. The suspect is also described as a male in his twenties to thirties.
