JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A woman was allegedly held against her will at gunpoint by a man who attempted to extort money from her family Tuesday.
After a short standoff, the suspect was arrested and the woman, 24, was found safe.
The incident took place at Creekwood Apartments on Hogan Road around 2:00 Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Timothy Summers, 24, took the victim's cell phone and told her friend over the phone if they ever wanted to see her again they would need to give him a large sum of money.
The suspect threatened to kill the victim if the police were called, according to JSO.
The victim told JSO, Summers held her in her apartment against her will and threatened to kill himself and her if she tried to leave.
After being notified of the call, a family member called JSO and reported the situation to police.
Police responded and surrounded the victim's apartment complex.
JSO officers were able to safely remove the victim from the apartment.
Contact was later made with the suspect via telephone and he surrendered, according to JSO.
The victim's apartment was searched and two guns were located.
Summers was arrested for kidnapping/hold for ransom, threatens with intent to extort money and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
He was booked into jail at 9:44 p.m.
