JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Maria Eileen Bratton was convicted Thursday afternoon in the murder of Cecil Scroggie, according to a State Attorney press release.
Bratton, 56, ran to a neighbor's house when she shot and killed Scroggie, 57, in June 2012. The release said the couple was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the shooting.
Bratton told police she shot Scroggie in self-defense. However, the release detailed that she began changing and adding to the story, which didn't match up with evidence. The evidence showed that Bratton beat, shot and strangled Scroggie.
Bratton faces life in prison and is listed as a 10/20/Life Offender. She is scheduled for sentencing the week of September 23.
