LAKE CITY, Fla. -- The Lake City Fire Department was able to extinguish an afternoon house fire Sunday, but not before it claimed the life of one Lake City man.
Around 11 a.m. Lake City Police Officers responded to a house fire on 247 SE Brown Street.
William Hamilton was inside the home.
Officers tried to get Hamilton out of the house, but the fire became too aggressive and officers had to pull out, according to the Lake City Police Department.
The Lake City Fire Dept. arrived a short time later and extinguished the fire. Hamilton was removed from the residence and pronounced dead on-scene.
LCPD Criminal Investigations Division, Investigator Tammy Cox, was notified and requested to respond to investigate if foul play was involved.
The Lake City Fire Marshall and FDLE have taken over the investigation.
