LAKE CITY, Fla. -- The Lake City Police Department is reminding citizens to make sure their vehicles are locked after several recent burglaries in the same area of town.
The burglaries have happened in the evening hours near SE Waldron Terrace, SE Castillo Terrace and the Windsong Apartments, to vehicles that appeared to have been left unlocked, according to a release from LCPD Assistant Public Information Officer Craig Strickland.
Upon finding an unlocked vehicle in the neighborhood the suspect, or suspects, takes items found inside. Items taken include "purses, cash, credit cards, guns and a child's karate outfit," Strickland said.
LCPD is advising to follow "Lock It or Lose It" to avoid becoming a victim: 1. Take your valuables inside and 2. Lock your vehicles every time you get out.
Citizens are also encouraged that if they "See Something, Say Something." Tips can be reported by calling the 24-hour communications center at (386) 752-4343.
