JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man died after being hit by a JTA bus on Tuesday afternoon.
Dwayne C. Farmer, 61, was taken to UF Health Jacksonville after the incident with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced dead, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
A Jacksonville Transportation Authority bus was traveling north on Laura Street, attempting to turn west on State Street, when the victim was struck, according to JSO on scene.
The victim was initially struck by a mirror on the JTA bus, which knocked him to the ground. The rear tires of the bus then rolled over the victim while he was on the ground.
Traffic in the area backed up during the lunch rush when the State, Main, Laura and Union Street intersections closed as a result of the incident.
JSO is investigating the incident.
