ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- The father of an 11-year-old was arrested for allegedly driving drunk with him in the car Saturday night.
Gary and Melinda Zetrouer were heading northbound on Interstate 95 near International Golf Parkway when another driver reported them for speeding and driving recklessly, according to a report from the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies caught up with the Zetrouer's just south of CR 210 and allegedly clocked the couples truck at 82 miles per hour, the report detailed. Deputies also allegedly witnessed the Zetrouer's vehicle swerving back and forth in their lane of traffic.
SJCSO deputies conducted a traffic stop and noted Gary had a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech and watery eyes, according to the report. Gary was given a series of field sobriety tests, which he failed, the report detailed, and was arrested for DUI.
When Gary was being placed under arrest his wife, Melinda Zetrouer, allegedly became irritated, attempted to justify her husband's actions and and explained their 11-year-old child was not in danger.
Following the incident, deputies filed a report with Florida Department of Children and Families.
