JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Monster Jam brings huge crowds to Jacksonville as more than 70,000 fans pack into Everbank Field for the annual event.
"Jacksonville holds the bragging rights for being the single, largest one-night monster jam event in the world," said Chris Rossbach, who has been working with Monster Jam for the past 19 seasons. He's worked shows in Los Angeles, New York, and Miami just to name a few. But it's Jacksonville that draws the largest crowd.
"First and foremost, you have one of the biggest stadiums in the country," Rossbach said. "Right now the only stadium larger than this that we tour to is Cowboys stadium in Dallas.. We find people are buying tickets from all over the state. So there's a lot of folks staying in a lot of hotels rooms, a lot of local businesses making a lot of money that they might not normally make because monster jam is so big here."
Hotels like the Hyatt downtown are filling up. Cab drivers say they welcome the increase in volume. And fans say it's worth the travel.
Tracey Battista and her family drove in this morning from St. Mary's, Georgia and says her family is very excited.
"Oh yeah, they've been waiting for about a month for this to come around," she said.
Gravedigger has been at it for the past 31 years and plans to put on a great show.
"We usually pack this house out and this is a good one. This is a good stop for us here...I've been here from the beginning when we only had 15,000 people. This thing has grown in leaps and bounds."
Tomorrow, all eyes are on the Daytona 500. Fans like Corey Chinnici are excited for the big weekend.
"Watch Dale Junior take it hopefully," he said.
The race starts at 1 p.m.
