JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Traffic homicide detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office are investigating a crash on Atlantic Boulevard east of San Pablo Road that killed two people.
JSO said around 12:30 a.m. New Year's Day an SUV with a man and a woman inside was driving east toward the beach on Atlantic Boulevard.
East of San Pablo Road, a station wagon pulled out in front of the SUV, detectives said.
The SUV hit the station wagon. JSO said the force of the impact caused the SUV to flip several times before it landed in the median and eastbound travel lanes.
JSO said the crash sent the station wagon across the median and into the westbound lanes.
Traffic homicide detectives said emergency personnel pronounced the two people in the SUV dead at the scene. Emergency workers transported the driver of the station wagon to Shands Jacksonville with minor injuries.
Police have not yet released the names of the two killed.
