JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man has been sentenced to six years in prison in the accidental shooting of his child.
Justin Satterfield, 27, pleaded guilty in August to child neglect, according to a release from the State Attorney's Office. Satterfield also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession with intent to sell a controlled substance and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
During the initial incident, Satterfield and his girlfriend, Brandy Purvis, the child's mother, were arguing over a rifle. It went off and hit their then-seven-month-old child in the arm and chest. The child has since recovered, according to the release.
Satterfield must serve a minimum of three years of his six-year sentence. Purvis pleaded guilty to a charge of child neglect. She was sentenced to time served, 155 days, and two years of probation.
