JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The JEA board voted Tuesday to waive the $2 Branch Transaction Fee.
The fee will go away Thursday, November 22, according to a news release from Gerri Boyce, spokesperson for JEA.
Introduced in 2009, the Branch Transaction Fee was designed to be a temporary measure. JEA's plan was to use the fee while customers transitioned from in-person payments to electronic and third-party locations. In 2002, Boyce said branch transactions exceeded 100,000 per month. Currently, Boyce said in-person transactions have been reduced to less than 30,000 per month.
There are more than 140 physical payment locations including at Winn-Dixies, Tax Collector offices and convenience stores.
Boyce said electronic payments continue to expand and in 2013 JEA will introduce a pre-paid metering program.
