ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. -- Suzy McGrath's holiday season started two and a half months ago when she took the executive pastry chef job at One Ocean.
Job one: preparing and building the annual gingerbread house.
Not a small task.
"I have always loved doing gingerbread houses, so I was excited, and I was warned," she said laughing.
The gingerbread house is really a gingerbread hotel, a replica of the beach front resort.
"For me I love to play with dough and sugar and spice," she said. "And I like to see people smile, and a gingerbread house has a way of bringing smiles to people's faces."
The list of edible ingredients in the structure are pretty impressive and include:
1,500 egg whites (heart healthy house)
400 pounds of powdered sugar
225 pounds of flour
400 pounds of brown sugar
200 pounds of butter
15 gallons of molasses
6000 neccos (for the roof)
A "touch" of glitter
You can see the gingerbread hotel through January 1 at One Ocean.
