FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. -- A jury has found William R. Copeland guilty of attempted first degree murder for trying to kill his ex-girlfriend's father.
Accurisio Venezia was shot in Palm Coast in May 2011.
According to Assistant State Attorney Mark Johnson, Copeland faces a minimum mandatory of 25 years in prison, pursuant to the 10-20-Life provisions of Florida Statutes, when the defendant is sentenced by Circuit Judge Raul Zambrano. But Copeland could also be sentenced to life.
The jury deliberated for about an hour-and-a-half on Saturday following a four-day trial that started Wednesday, according to a news release from Florida State Attorney of the 7th Judicial Circuit.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports Venezia, 42, was shot just below the chest and is the father of Corina Venezia, 20, who is Copeland's ex-girlfriend.
A tentative sentencing hearing for Copeland has been scheduled for December 11.
